Each year, the Australian Power Institute brings together the Power Up community to welcome our newest scholarship recipients and celebrate the graduating scholars who are taking their next steps into the power and energy sector.
The annual API Power Up Scholarship Celebration is a special online event that recognises the students joining the program, farewells those completing their scholarship journey, and highlights the connections, opportunities and industry support that sit at the heart of the Power Up community.
Scholarship applications closing soon: Tuesday 30 June 2026.
After applications close, API will begin the shortlisting and selection process, supported by industry representatives from API Member organisations. Successful scholarship recipients will be notified once selection is complete, and invitations to the celebration event will be sent soon after.
In the meantime, all applicants and graduating PUP scholars are encouraged to save the date:

Welcoming new scholars and celebrating graduating students
The Power Up Scholarship Celebration is more than a formal welcome. It is an opportunity to recognise the passion, potential and commitment of students who are interested in helping shape Australia’s future power workforce.
Each year, the event brings together new scholars, graduating scholars and the broader API community to reflect on what it means to be part of the Power Up Program. It is a chance to hear from students who have made the most of their scholarship journey, built industry connections, explored career pathways and grown their understanding of the power sector.
For incoming scholars, the celebration marks the beginning of a new chapter. Through the Power Up Program, students gain access to a supportive community, industry events, career development opportunities, resources and connections that can help them better understand where a career in power and energy could take them.
For graduating scholars, the event is a moment to reflect on their experiences, share advice and celebrate the next steps in their careers.
Why the celebration matters
The API Power Up Scholarship is about more than financial support. It is designed to help students build confidence, broaden their understanding of the industry and connect with people and organisations working across the power sector.
Past scholars have often reflected on the value of saying yes to opportunities, making connections beyond their immediate study area, exploring different parts of the sector and using placements, events and conferences to better understand where they may want to contribute in the future.
The celebration event is a reminder that the Power Up community is not just about individual achievement. It is about building a connected, diverse and future-focused group of students who are excited about the role they can play in Australia’s energy future.

Following the Scholarship Celebration, scholars attending the welcome event are invited to stay online for API’s next Inside Industry webinar, which will begin at 12:00pm AEST.
Inside Industry Webinar: Keeping the Lights On While Changing Everything: The Energy Transition in Real Life Date: Thursday 20 August 2026 Time: 12:00pm – 1:00pm AEST /10-11am WST
This webinar is open to the broader Power Up community and will explore what the energy transition means in practice for the engineers working across the power sector. Students will hear more about the real challenges and opportunities involved in keeping the system safe, reliable and affordable while enabling the technologies and infrastructure needed for the future.
