What is the Power Up Program Video Challenge

Learn from your peers about their placement experiences in the power sector.

 

Exclusively open to students completing a Summer Placement at an API Member Organisation, the Power UP Video Challenge inspires our budding Power Professionals to explore their ability to share their Industry placement experience and develop their communication skills.

 

By sharing these experiences and their new industry knowledge, we can bring together the learnings for professional and personal development in students working towards a career in power.

2027 Theme

The theme for the 2026 Video Challenge was: 'Behind the Scenes of the Power Sector: What I Learned and Why It Matters'.

 

Students can take viewers inside a real workspace, project, or field environment to show what engineering in the power sector really looks like.

Key Dates

  • Submission Open: November 2026

  • Submission Closing Date: Friday 26th February 2027

  • Voting opens: Monday 8th March 2027

  • Voting ends: Sunday 21st March 2027

  • Announce winners on socials: Thursday 25th March 2027

People’s Choice

  • Winner - $500

  • 4 x finalists - $250 each

The people's choice award will be given to the video with the most views on any social media platform. Make sure that you tell your colleagues, friends and family about your video to get those views!

Judges Choice

  • Winner - $500

  • 4 x finalists - $250 each

​

All the uploaded videos will be judged by the Video Challenge’s Judging Panel made up of API staff and previous Challenge winners.

How to Submit a Video

  1. Refer to the PowerUP Video Challenge 2027 – Student Briefing Document

  2. Create and edit your video.

  3. Have the final video approved by your placement manager.

  4. Add the supplied API Call to Action slide to the end.

  5. Upload your video to YouTube as Public or Unlisted.

  6. Complete the 2027 PowerUP Video Challenge submission form and provide your YouTube link.

  7. Once entries are published, share your video and encourage your network to support the challenge.


Video Submissions will open for the 2027 Challenge in November.
