In the coming days, we’re thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2025 Power UP Scholarships — a growing group of bright, motivated students passionate about building a better energy future for Australia.

Each of these students will join the Power UP Community, a national network of future leaders in the power sector that extends far beyond a single scholarship or internship. This is their first step in a journey of learning, connection, and impact.

⚡ What Is the Power UP Community?

The Power UP Community brings together undergraduate students from across Australia who are committed to developing their careers in the energy and power sectors. Supported by the Australian Power Institute (API) and our industry partners, this community is more than just a mailing list — it’s a live, growing ecosystem of opportunity.

Students in the Power UP Community gain access to:

  • Exclusive internships and graduate pathways with leading energy employers

  • Mentoring and support from professionals across the sector

  • Online and in-person events, including technical panels, site tours, and networking sessions

  • A dedicated Learning Journal and development tools to prepare for real-world placements

  • A supportive peer network of like-minded students and early-career engineers

⚡ What Is the Power UP Scholarship?

Every year, API looks for high quality electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, data science, and renewable energy related engineering students with an interest in power engineering.

The API offers a Scholarship (bursary) to students undertaking degree level studies in engineering relevant to the power industry at particular Australian universities as follows:

  • Available to current engineering students (the majority of Scholarships will be awarded to 1st year students with a proportion available to 2nd and 3rd year students)

  • Studying electrical, mechanical/mechatronics, or power industry related degrees or studying a mix of science, technology, & engineering subjects relating to the power industry other subjects e.g., telecommunications / computing / IoT/ Data / Science, etc.

  • The API is an equal opportunity organisation and supports 'Equal by 2030', we currently have 43% female recipients and continue to strive towards 50/50.

💡 Why Power UP Matters

Australia’s energy transition will require a workforce that is not only technically skilled, but also collaborative, adaptive, and forward-thinking. Through Power UP, students don’t just gain experience — they gain confidence, industry insight, and a sense of purpose.

Our scholars are placed in roles across the country — from regional substations to control rooms and urban innovation hubs. Along the way, they’re supported to grow professionally and personally, and to step into the sector as work-ready graduates.

👥 A Connected Future

By joining the Power UP Community, students are connected not only to industry, but to each other. Many will go on to attend API’s Summer School, join early career retreats, or return as mentors to future cohorts.

As we prepare to welcome the next generation of Power UP Scholars, we celebrate the talent, diversity, and passion they bring to the sector — and we thank our member organizations for helping create pathways that are transforming futures.

Stay tuned for the official announcement of our 2025 Power UP Scholarship recipients — and please join us in celebrating these future power sector leaders.
