If you’ve ever thought, “Someone should see what this job is really like”, this is your moment. The API Video Challenge is back for 2026, and it’s bigger, bolder, and open to more students than ever.
Whether you’re a PowerUP Scholar or an undergrad doing a summer placement at an API member organisation, this is your chance to jump in.
What’s the Challenge All About?
This year’s theme is a cracker:
Behind the Scenes of the Power Sector: What I Learned and Why It Matters
You’re living the experience right now. You’re out there seeing how electricity actually gets from A to B, working with the tech, meeting the people, and solving the real problems. Your perspective is the gold we want to share with future students.
Your mission: capture the action, the surprises, the cool engineering moments, and the things you’ve discovered along the way. Show everyone the real story of the power sector through your eyes.
Why Get Involved?
Because your three-minute video could:
• Inspire other students to choose a career in the power sector
• Help Australia understand what engineers and technicians really do
• Give you great content for job applications, LinkedIn, and your CV
• Maybe even win yourself some cash!
Prizes Up for Grabs
Two award categories. Two winning prizes. Eight finalist prizes. All cash.
• People’s Choice Award: $500 for the most-viewed video
• Judges Award: $500 as voted by API staff and past winners
• Plus: Four finalists in each category bag $250
You’re literally getting rewarded for showing off your summer placement. Easy win.
Key Dates You’ll Need
• Video due: Friday 27 February 2026
• Voting opens: Monday 9 March 2026
• Voting closes: Sunday 22 March 2026
• Winners announced: Week of 23 March 2026

How to Submit Your Entry
Film during your placement
Add the API call-to-action slide at the end
Check with your manager before uploading
Publish your video on YouTube or other platforms • Set to public or unlisted • Add the hashtag #APIvideochallenge • Tag @AustralianPowerInstitute
Submit your video link via the submission form by 27 February
Share your video everywhere to boost your chances in the People’s Choice Award
