The Power Up Program is gearing up for one of its most exciting years yet. In 2026, students across Australia can look forward to a full calendar of opportunities designed to ignite curiosity, build industry connections, and open the door to meaningful careers in the energy sector.
From the long-awaited return of in-person interviews to major events and new chances to get involved, here’s what’s coming your way.
In-Person Summer Placement Interviews – Back Across Australia
March 2026 – All Capital Cities
For the first time since COVID, our Summer Placement interviews are returning in person, and we’re taking them national.
Students shortlisted for Summer Placement opportunities will meet API member organisations face-to-face in structured interview and networking sessions held in every state capital. This is a major milestone for the Power Up Program and an incredible opportunity for students to connect directly with engineers, recruiters, and leaders who are shaping Australia’s energy transition.
These in-person sessions will give students a genuine feel for industry expectations and allow organisations to meet the next generation of emerging professionals in a more meaningful, conversational format.

Applications for New Scholars
1 April – 30 June 2026
Our next intake of Power Up Scholars opens on 1 April and runs through to 30 June 2026.
During this period, students can apply for one of the most comprehensive development programs available to aspiring power engineers. Scholars gain access to:
Exclusive industry experiences
Professional development opportunities
Mentoring and networking
Invitations to events, workshops, and site visits
Priority access to programs such as Summer Placement
If you're passionate about contributing to Australia’s energy future, make sure these dates are in your calendar.
Inside Industry Webinar Series – Returning in 2026
Back by popular demand, the Inside Industry Webinar Series returns next year, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at current projects, technology, and challenges across the sector.
These webinars bring together experts from transmission, distribution, generation, system operations, and emerging technologies. Students will hear directly from engineers and leaders working on Australia’s most significant energy challenges — all from wherever they are studying.
Whether you're exploring career possibilities or looking to deepen your technical understanding, these sessions are a must-attend.

Power Up Summit – A Key National Event
The Power Up Summit is also making its return in 2026. This national event brings together scholars, students, industry partners, and professionals from across Australia to share ideas, insights, and experiences.
Expect a program filled with:
Thought-provoking speakers
Skills development workshops
Interactive sessions
Networking with peers and professionals
Exposure to industry pathways and innovation
The Summit is a highlight of the Power Up calendar and a memorable experience for every student who attends.
TJ Effeney Award – Celebrating Excellence
Another important return in 2026 is the TJ Effeney Award, which recognises outstanding student leadership, contribution, and passion for the energy sector.
This prestigious award highlights the talent and dedication of students stepping up to make a difference in their studies, their communities, and the future of Australia’s electricity industry.
More information on the nomination process will be released early in the year.
