Maximising Your API Membership: What to Expect in a Member Activity Plan (MAP) Meeting

The Australian Power Institute (API) has launched a new initiative to help our members get the very best value from their membership – Member Activity Plans (MAPs).
Created as a direct response to the increasing depth and complexity of the API’s programs, MAPs serve as your annual guidebook for how the API and your organisation will work together over the year ahead. With more opportunities than ever before to engage with our programs, talent pipelines, and collaborative projects, MAPs make it easier to navigate and maximise your involvement.

Why MAPs?
In recent years, API’s portfolio of activities has grown significantly – from scholarships and work placements to leadership programs, research collaborations, and sector-wide initiatives. While this growth means more opportunities for API member organisations, it can also make it more challenging to keep track of what’s on offer and who in your organisation is involved.
MAPs address this by clearly capturing:
What you’re participating in – your organisation’s current involvement in API programs and initiatives.
Who we work with – the key contacts within your organisation and the API.
Led by Our New Industry and University Partnerships Manager
The rollout of MAPs is being driven by Hayley Credaro, API’s new Industry and University Partnerships Manager, working closely with API CEO Dr David Pointing. Together, they are meeting with all member organisations to ensure the MAP is accurate, relevant, and tailored to your needs.

What’s in a MAP?
Each MAP includes:
A snapshot of current engagement – programs you organisation is currently involved in and opportunities still available.
A handy ‘tick box’ tracker for active programs.
Multi-year forecasts for involvement in the API’s PowerUP Scholarship (formerly the API Bursary Scholarship), including the number of students you’ll host in 2025, 2026, and 2027. These figures help us plan the number of new first-year scholarships offered in 2025.
Key contacts – so the right people can connect quickly when opportunities arise.
You’ll also receive the API Member Information Pack, which details all our current programs and initiatives.
The Meeting Format
MAP meetings are short, focused, and collaborative. In just 30 minutes, you can expect:
An introduction to the API and the MAP process.
A review of your draft MAP – shared before the meeting for your input.
A discussion of priority areas for further development or new engagement.
Next steps – updating the MAP to version 2 and arranging follow-up meetings between relevant staff in your organisation and the API team.

Why This Matters
By the end of your MAP meeting, you’ll have:
A clear and current record of your organisation’s engagement with API.
Agreed focus areas for growth and collaboration.
Confidence that you’re making the most of every membership opportunity.
MAP meetings are now underway. If you haven’t booked yours yet, Hayley or David will be in touch soon – or feel free to contact us to arrange a time that suits you. Contact Hayley at Hayley.credaro@api.edu.au
Together, let’s ensure your API membership delivers maximum impact for your organisation, your people, and the future of Australia’s power sector.
