API at AUPEC 2025: Supporting the Future of Power Engineering Education

The 2025 IEEE PES Australasian Universities Power Engineering Conference (AUPEC) was held from 29th September to 1st October at The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus, bringing together leading minds in power engineering from across Australia and beyond. The conference focused on shaping future resilient energy systems, with a strong emphasis on the role of education and research in driving the energy transition.

AUPEC is the premier power engineering conference in the region, hosted annually by IEEE PES. It provides a platform for academics, researchers, and industry professionals to share insights, innovations, and challenges in the evolving energy landscape. This year’s theme highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities and industry to build a skilled workforce and develop technologies that support a sustainable energy future.

The Australian Power Institute (API) was proud to attend AUPEC 2025 as both a supporter and sponsor of the event. Our Operations Manager, Emily Marschke, who was Acting CEO at the time, represented API in the Plenary Panel Discussion on Power Engineering Education and Research Needs for the Energy Transition. Her contribution helped spotlight the critical role API plays in fostering industry-university partnerships and supporting the next generation of power engineers.

The conference was a valuable opportunity to connect with Australia’s leading power engineering academics and several of our API member organisations, including Energy Queensland, AEMO, Powerlink, and Aurecon, as well as other key industry stakeholders. These connections reinforce the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition.

API remains committed to supporting initiatives like AUPEC that align with our mission to build a skilled, innovative, and future-ready energy workforce.
