The Australian Power Institute’s new API Power Up Industry Connect series is well underway, with successful events delivered across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and most recently Western Australia.
Designed to bring students and industry together in a meaningful, face-to-face setting, the series is already proving the value of real-world connection in building the future workforce of the power sector.
Across each event, Power Up Scholars and API member organisations have come together for a full day of engagement, combining Summer Placement interviews, industry insights and networking. While the structure of the day is important, it is the quality of the interactions that has stood out most.

At the centre of the experience are the connections between students and industry professionals. Through in-person interviews, students have had the opportunity to share their interests, experiences and ambitions directly with potential employers. For many, this is their first professional interview in the sector, offering both valuable experience and a genuine pathway into a future career.
Equally important are the connections formed between students themselves. Bringing together Power Up Scholars from different universities and backgrounds has created a strong sense of community, with students learning from each other, sharing experiences and building networks that will support them throughout their careers.

The events have also created space for meaningful engagement between professionals and students beyond the interview setting. Industry panels have provided insight into the breadth of the power sector, helping students understand where organisations sit within the system and the types of projects shaping Australia’s energy future. These conversations have continued into the networking sessions, where informal discussions often lead to deeper understanding, mentorship and ongoing connections.
For API member organisations, the series provides a unique opportunity to meet a concentrated cohort of motivated, high-potential students, while also showcasing their role in the sector and contributing to the development of the next generation workforce.
With four events now complete, the national tour continues with South Australia and Tasmania later in April, ensuring Power Up Scholars across the country have the opportunity to participate in this experience.

As the events progress, the focus now begins to shift towards the next stage of the journey – supporting students and member organisations through the confirmed Summer Placements for 2026/27. This includes ongoing engagement, preparation and connection to ensure both students and employers gain maximum value from the placement experience.
API Power Up Industry Connect is more than a series of events. It is a platform for building relationships, strengthening pathways into the industry, and supporting a connected and capable future workforce.
We look forward to continuing the journey with our community across the remaining events, and beyond.
