In May 2025, the Australian Power Institute (API) hosted the inaugural Power UP Forum as a part of the 2025 API Summer School. This was a meeting where API staff and Members came together to discuss the Power Up Community and Scholarship, and how we can make the Power Up Scholarship and Community a better experience for members and Power Up Scholars.

Highlights from the Forum

  • Unveiling Member Activity Plans (MAPs): The API’s newest team member Haley Credaro the Industry and University Partnerships Manager, unveiled the new Membership Activity Plans, these plans will help highlight member activity with the API and the Power Up Program.

  • Official Announcement of the Power Up Community: Haley also officially announced the Power Up Community. This is a network of nearly 1000 students passionate about power that API members can get in contact to speak to about their graduate programs, summer placements and other programs.

Looking Ahead: Making the Power UP Forum an Annual Event

Building on the success of the inaugural forum, API is committed to making the Power UP Forum an annual event. This decision reflects the growing demand for platforms that connect students with industry professionals and provide insights into the power sector's future. The annual forum will continue to serve as a vital resource for the API and its members to meet and continue to make the Power Up Scholarship and community the best experience for their students.

Upcoming Power UP Meeting at the AAGE Conference 2025

In addition to the annual Power UP Forum, API is planning a special meeting with its members to discuss Power UP. This meeting is scheduled to coincide with the Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE) Graduate Recruitment and Development Conference in Brisbane on October 22, 2025. The AAGE conference is a significant event in the graduate recruitment calendar, and aligning the Power UP meeting with this conference will provide an excellent opportunity for API members to engage with a broader network of graduate employers and discuss strategies for enhancing the Power UP program's impact.(aage.com.au

Conclusion

The Power UP Forum 2025 marked a significant step in fostering collaboration between students and the power sector. By establishing this forum as an annual event and planning strategic meetings with industry partners, API is paving the way for a more connected and dynamic energy sector in Australia. These initiatives underscore the importance of continuous dialogue and partnership in shaping the future of power engineering and technology.
