Our 2024 program includes online sessions with 10+ executives + our 4 day residential program linked to the API Summer School in Tasmania in February 2024. Learn and connect through workshops, panels, speakers, site tours + social activities with other grads and 100+ other future leaders in the power sector.
Are you a graduate in the first five years of a technically oriented role?
The API's Summer School Graduate Stream will develop your leadership capabilities and potential by strengthening your understanding of the strategic technical challenges and opportunities in the sector. It will also provide you with information and inspiration to guide your career progression.
Key dates

Early bird reg'n closes: 30 September 2023; entries possible until late January 2024 (we have a target of 20 grads for this first-ever cohort for the Graduate stream).

All of the Exec Insights series online: Insights from 10x Execs on key challenges and opportunities for the sector, and additional analysis of the issues by ~50 mid-career power sector leaders from the API’s annual Summer School 2-week residential course (in February 2024). Watch the presentations and discuss the projects in person at the Summer School, access the written reports, and have an exclusive follow-up online Q&A with the Summer School participants about their reports and recommendations.
3-day residential graduate retreat in Tasmania linked to the API Summer School, with opportunities to learn from and connect with the 100+ other industry professionals.
Workshops and coaching that build your understanding of and skills for a rewarding and interesting career and development of leadership pathways in the power sector.
Support to create a personal career development plan to sustain your journey to take the next steps in progressing your future.
Online learning course by AEMO + API on the National Electricty Market ("NEM Basics").
Live 3-day graduate retreat in Tasmania in February 2024
Building on from our success in delivering a program for graduates in 2022 and 2023 with the API's Powerful Women Leadership Program in 2022, we're excited to offer the API's Summer School Graduate Stream in 2024 for the first time.
It is an inspiring and knowledge-filled 6-month program with the highlight of the live 3-day retreat where you can connect with 100+ other technically aligned grads and experienced professional from leadering organisations across the power sector.

Energising training to develop your goal planning and communication skills.
Summer School strategic project presentations: insights from the next generation of leaders (Summer School professional participant) on the challenges and opportunities in the power sector and how graduates can contribute (and how you can develop yourself to thrive in your career).
Informal mentoring and networking opportunities over the 3 days with the other participants in the Grad program and the 100+ participants in the Summer School and Powerful Women Leadership Programs (and the API Board and other leaders).
Support and tools for creating your personal career and capability development plan
Future Workforce Forum exploring strategic and practical challenges for the power sector with a focus on the development of the workforce.

How to register
Graduates considering attending must coordinate with your employer about the internal process for selecting people to attend the Graduate stream of the Summer School.
Submit the Purchase Order Form in the Early Career Programs booklet by email to Emily Marschke to secure your seat & pay by invoice: Emily.Marschke@api.edu.au
Managers can register an order without the names of participants to secure your seats.
Women graduates* are encouraged to apply for the Powerful Women Leadership Program Early Career stream - this includes all activities in the Graduate stream AND additional activities over 12 months and connections to the community of 80+ Powerful Women in 2024. Scholarships are available.
