Discover Your Path in Power This National Careers Week

National Careers Week (11-17th May) is a chance to pause, reflect and get curious about where your career could take you and at the Australian Power Institute, we are inviting both students and professionals to do exactly that.

National Careers week

This year, we are bringing careers in the power sector to life through two engaging, accessible initiatives designed to showcase the diversity of pathways and inspire the next generation of talent.

For those already working in the industry, we are launching Your Power Path, a social media series that highlights the real decisions behind real careers. Across the week, professionals from across the power sector will respond to a series of simple, thought-provoking questions. From where they started, to the opportunities they said yes to, and the challenges that shaped them, each response offers a genuine insight into the many directions a career in power can take.

There is no single path into this industry and that is exactly what this series aims to show. Whether your journey began in engineering, data, policy or beyond, Your Power Path is an opportunity to reflect on your own experience while helping others better understand the breadth of opportunities available.

For students, including high school and undergraduate participants, we are introducing the Careers in Power 5 Day Challenge. This self-paced challenge is designed to build awareness, confidence and curiosity about the industry in just a few minutes each day.

Participants will explore different career roles, learn from real professionals, connect their existing skills to industry needs, and start to picture their own future in the sector. It is simple, practical and designed to fit around study or other commitments.

To make things even more exciting, students who complete the challenge and submit their checklist will receive a digital badge and go into the draw to win a prize.

Together, these initiatives reflect the core purpose of National Careers Week by raising awareness of career development, challenging perceptions, and showcasing the evolving nature of work in the power sector.

Whether you are just starting to explore your options or reflecting on your own career journey, we encourage you to get involved, share your insights, and help shape the future power workforce.
