Project Summary
Throughout my placement I have primarily worked on reports, memos, and code projects. I began my placement with training about AEMO, the WEM and the SWIS, and the mechanisms for managing capacity, contingencies, and network frequency. I’ve prepared diagrams and spreadsheets for use in reports and have worked on model templates and verified report information. My primary project at AEMO was my wind farm output estimate code project, where I wrote a program that outputs the estimated output of a wind farm given its coordinates (for weather data), turbine power curve characteristics and number of turbines. To complete this project, I needed to meet with another team and discuss requirements, code the logic of the project, source the data, optimise, and debug the code. Towards the end of the project, I presented it to my team, showing its operation, functions, and significant findings. I have met with the members of the team to learn about the WEM, SWIS, and common types of power studies conducted in software such as PowerFactory and PSCAD.
