My advice would be to explore as many different opportunities within in the power/energy industry for two main reasons. The first being that you increase your chance of finding a niche that resonates with you and the second reason is that you gain a larger view of how the industry operates and this can give you a greater appreciation for the work you are involved with.

Who am I

I am a creative individual with a desire to challenge myself and be a part of impactful work.
I also have a passion for being part of collaborative projects that inspires others. My goal is to gain a greater understanding of the engineering industry, its opportunities, problems and knowledge required.

Why I chose a career in power

A career in the energy sector would give me the opportunity to be part of the effort to tackle climate change and the challenges Australia faces in producing and distributing energy. I would hope that a career in this sector would give me the chance to innovate and look at the data we have on energy from a new perspective. In addition to this, I would want to make practical use of the knowledge I have gained through my commerce degree by exploring how we can make these developments economically viable and beneficial to consumers.

My work experience.
What's next?

AEMO (Intern), Aurecon (Intern), Albins (school work experience), Robogals (Parnterships positions). One of the biggest global challenges we face today is climate change and a large reason as to why we face this is problem is because of how we currently produce energy. A career in the power sector would give me the opportunity to be part of the effort to address these current problems and this is exciting as it makes the work involved feel more relevant and important to our future existence. If this was not important enough, the power sector is responsible for the fundamental structure of most current and emerging technologies. Furthermore, the sort of work involved seems to be extremely diverse, presenting new challenges every day. I find this exciting and comforting because it means I may be able to find a niche area of the industry which perfectly fits with my interests.
