Jump in and get curious about an industry that you have been using, and likely taken for granted, all your life. It's fascinating to understand just how power gets from source to customer and just what it takes to have it all operating smoothly.

Who am I

I was an electrician previously before taking the leap into engineering. My past employer was the electrical distribution company for the state and my experience there shaped my initial interest in the power industry. I have loved learning mechatronics for the variety of content it has taught me and I'm excited to put my critical thinking to the test in a graduate position in the near future. Outside of work and studies I enjoy artistic pursuits such as painting and ceramics, and essentially all activities in the outdoors such as hiking and bouldering.

Why I chose a career in power

This is the time to be here! Power underpins the society as we enjoy it now and also holds the key to our sustainable future. While the transition to a decarbonized grid is underway, the power industry will have to tackle completely novel challenges in new ways. There's so much to learn with all the new power technology constantly coming to market so I think it's a fascinating period to get into power.

What's next?

Previously I worked for Ergon Energy in FNQ. Before that I was a bookkeeping assistant. My goal is to understand the network better and what current constraints are in place which limit our integration of renewable energy sources into the grid.
