The power sector is currently undergoing a rapid and significant clean energy transition which is only expected to intensify within Australia as we draw closer to the net zero deadline of 2050. The work and opportunities that come with this net zero target, paired with the expected network growth over this same time period result in an exciting future for an engineer in the power sector. This is why I have chosen the power sector.
Who am I
I am a fourth and final year student at the newly formed Adelaide University. Born and raised in Port Pirie, I relocated to Adelaide to pursue such studies. Throughout my time at university, I have developed a strong interest in the power sector which has ultimately led me down a path with the Australian Power Institute (API). The API have been invaluable to my progression as a young and aspiring engineer within this field.
In my spare time, I enjoy sport and fitness activities, as well as socialising with family and friends.
Why I chose a career in power
I am excited by the opportunities brought by the forecasted growth within not only my home state of South Australia, but the broader Australian landscape. Such growth requires much work and innovation to fully the associated benefits while ensuring safety and reliability at every step.
Where it all started
My interest in the power sector started with early university courses that introduced me to core concepts relating to power systems and electric machines. The highly interesting content paired with the expertise, passion, and dedication of the university staff responsible for those courses unlocked this same passion within myself. From this point, my personal experiences have only reaffirmed this interest.

I have completed four engineering internships throughout my time at university, three of which were summer placement experiences while the remaining one was during Semester 2, 2025. These experiences have all been invaluable for my development as an aspiring electrical engineer. Due to the differences in these experiences, I feel as though I now have a more well-rounded understanding of the roles of electrical engineers within a range of sectors.
