I chose the power industry because it's not just about generating to meet energy needs, it's about generating a cleaner, smarter future.

Who am I

I am an electrical engineer with around 8 years of professional experience in the energy industry working on power system projects ranging from transmission and distribution level to analysis for commercial and industrial applications.

Why I chose a career in power

During my bachelor's studies, I was deeply intrigued by a subject called Power System Operation and Control. It explored the intricate mechanics of how large-scale electrical systems operate in synchronism—a concept that fascinated me from the start. When I began working as a power system engineer, I experienced the thrill of seeing theory come to life. Applying those concepts in real-world scenarios not only reinforced my interest but also ignited a lasting passion for the industry

Where it all started

I hold a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Mumbai University and a Master of Engineering Science from UNSW Sydney. In my previous experience includes working on power system analysis projects for commercial and industrial clients, focusing on the design of electrical systems and protection schemes for new substations and the integration of technologies such as battery energy storage systems. This work encompassed a range of technical studies, including load flow analysis, short circuit calculations, arc flash assessments, protection coordination, dynamic simulations, and insulation coordination studies.

My work experience.
What's next?

I am a Senior Engineer at AEMO, working within the National Planning team. My role encompasses power system analysis, engineering assessments, and stakeholder engagement to support AEMO’s long-term planning initiatives and obligations. This includes contributing to key publications such as the Integrated System Plan (ISP), the Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO), and System Security Reports. As part of these efforts, I conduct technical evaluations of future network development options to enhance transmission and distribution capacity, assess network constraints impacting system reliability, and analyze system strength and inertia requirements to ensure secure operation of a future grid with high renewable energy penetration.
