The power industry is the foundation that has the roots to all other industries and economies around the world. The opportunity to lead a career will test the limits of your engineering skills and expertise whilst facing great challenges along with a wealth of knowledge to be gained throughout the journey. The global energy transition is key in keeping individuals in the power industry always engaged in innovation and new technologies targeting a sustainable future.

Who am I

My name is Peumal, I am originally from Sri Lanka, I was residing in London throughout a period of my primary education. I played Table Tennis as a sport to become successful at national level where I was mentored and coached by my father. However, I had to get back to the books where I completed my secondary education back in Sri Lanka where my subjects of interests were Mathematics, physics and chemistry which eventually led to me studying engineering at Swinburne University. As per my interests I enjoy watching formula One and cricket and currently take part in swimming as a leisure activity. I have always been excited to travel around the world for new experiences and will always be thriving to gain knowledge to develop a successful career in engineering.

Why I chose a career in power

I believe that the power industry serves as a foundation to all other industries and economic sectors around the world which are always growing and in the need of expertise to keep up with new innovations and technologies.
The global transition to renewable energy sources will always provide opportunities for young engineers to learn, develop and showcase their skills to be at the frontline of this energy transformation.
I am excited to have this opportunity to learn about the Australian energy market and its operation and how I can contribute to building a sustainable future through a career in the power industry.

Where it all started

My higher studies originated at Swinburne University of Technology, where I completed a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering graduating in 2019. My first role was a CAD design engineer in the field of caravan manufacturing where I gained skills and experience in engineering design, production management and work ethics. My ambition to explore alternative industries that are of high demand in Australia which resulted in an opportunity at Wilson Transformer company to begin my career in the Power industry.

My work experience.
What's next?

I am currently employed at Wilson Transformer Company as a Production Process Engineer where my primary role is the initiation and management of process improvement projects in manufacturing. Throughout my first year of experience at Wilson's I have been fascinated on the scale and uniqueness of Transformer design and manufacturing where multiple fields of engineering collaborate to produce a finished product. I am currently looking into new technologies and processes that can streamline, increase efficiency and quality of the manufacturing process. Wilson Transformer company has given me the opportunity to upskill and gain knowledge through arrangement of various training programs and courses to unlock key accreditation's that are highly beneficial for my career progression and also the company's manufacturing operations.
