I chose the power sector because it's practical, impactful and essential. Power systems are complex, constantly evolving, especially with the more renewable developments, and it's rewarding to work in an industry that directly affects people and communities in such a tangible way. In particular, the intersection of technical power systems, economics and policy within the energy sector is exciting to me!
Who am I
I am a final year Master of Electrical Engineering student at the University of Melbourne, specialising in low-carbon power systems. The power sector aligns with my curiosity, love for problem-solving and calling to make a meaningful impact. I'm an active member of my student community through the ambassador program, student clubs and initiatives that encourage and create inclusive spaces for young women pursuing STEM. Outside of academics, I enjoy live music, going on hikes and chasing waterfalls!
Why I chose a career in power
I’m excited to enter the industry at a time when the power sector is evolving so quickly. The integration of renewables, new technologies, and smarter networks creates interesting engineering challenges. Being part of that transition where economics and policy intersect with engineering is meaningful. I’m particularly motivated by how these decisions ultimately affect communities, from ensuring reliable electricity to enabling the adoption of cleaner, more sustainable energy sources
Where it all started
I became interested in the power sector and particularly the issues of energy equity during high school, when I was researching PV technology as part of VCE Extended Investigation in high school. This introduced me to the broader impact of renewable energy - not just in tackling climate change but in improving energy equity and access. Since then, studies at university and professional experiences through internships in the energy sector have been formative in shaping my passions and have motivated me to contribute to sustainable energy solutions.

What's next?
Recent experience includes internships at Powercor, Snowy Hydro, and Acciona Energia, which have been incredible opportunities to learn how the power sector operates and the challenges brought on by the energy transition. They’ve given me a realistic perspective on both the technical complexity and the broader industry pressures shaping the power sector today. Outside of the energy sector, I’ve also completed engineering internships at Siemens and Deloitte. As I finish my studies, I look forward to building upon this foundation and contributing to practical, impactful work in the power sector while growing as a well-rounded engineer.
