Being a renewable power engineer means contributing directly to the global transition toward clean energy and helping build a healthier, more sustainable Earth.
Who am I
Hi! My name is Julius and I am a final-year Power Engineering and Science student at QUT with a strong interest in transmission and grid connection. Through my degree and with the support of the API Power Up Scholarship, I have been fortunate to complete internships at both Aurecon and GHD, gaining hands-on experience in power systems studies and modelling. I am looking forward to taking everything I have learned into my career going forward.
Why I chose a career in power
What excites me most about entering the power industry is the real-world impact of the work. At the end of the day, the projects I'll be working on directly affect how people access electricity and how we transition to a cleaner energy system. It's not abstract — the studies and models we produce have tangible outcomes for communities and the environment. Being able to contribute to that, even as a graduate, is something I find genuinely motivating.
Where it all started
Growing up in an era where climate change was becoming an increasingly urgent conversation, I always felt a pull to want to do something about it. Power engineering turned out to be the perfect fit — it scratched my itch for mathematics and problem solving while also giving me a way to contribute to building a cleaner world. It felt less like choosing a career and more like finding where I was supposed to end up.
My work experience.
What's next?
I have completed internships at both Aurecon's Transmission & Distribution team and GHD's Power Advisory team in Brisbane. At Aurecon I was exposed to the fundamentals of transmission and distribution engineering, while at GHD I have been able to go deeper into grid connection studies and power systems modelling using PSS®E. Both experiences have given me a really well-rounded foundation heading into graduate life. As for my next step, I am looking forward to continuing to grow as an engineer in the power advisory space and building on the technical skills I have developed through these placements.
