Workplace

There are so many opportunities for people from a vast range of backgrounds such as data analytics, computer science, mechanical or mechatronic engineering. You don't have to have an electrical engineering background to demonstrate your passion or interest for the power/energy industry! The energy transition often mentioned in the news and that is a good way to expose yourself to the energy markets and new technologies. I would also say to take every opportunity to go out on site to observe the assets on the network and speak to field workers about their experiences to accelerate your learning. :)

Who am I

I have always enjoyed maths and science throughout primary and high school which led me to pursuing a degree in engineering. My dad's background in physics and electrical engineering also played a large role in inspiring me to lean towards an electrical engineering path. Aside from my studies, I am really passionate about education and bringing more women into STEM, so in my spare time I tutor high school maths and science, hoping I can make a positive impact on their educational experience and leave a positive impression on a career in engineering. In my spare time outside of work, I enjoy reading, going to the gym and spending time with my cat.

Why I chose a career in power

I have always been curious about the way things work, however, it wasn't until I was exposed to the power industry at university that I began to appreciate its fundamental role in society. Electrical power is often overlooked despite almost all aspects of our daily life requiring it. As the power industry is also currently in a stage of rapid transformation, changing to meet the evolving needs and expectations of people and the economy, I find it very rewarding to be a part of the community that is solving these challenges. Being at the forefront of innovation to learn and contribute to the future of energy also offers an exciting opportunity for ongoing learning and development.

Where it all started

I am so excited to be joining the energy industry in the midst of the energy transition where sustainability and technology are driving its transformation. It is really rewarding to be in an industry that is one of the foundations of modern society as I am able to continue learning and growing by contributing to solving the challenges of the evolving needs of the modern economy. I look forward to contributing to the energy transition by solving challenges associated with transitioning away from traditional grid and exploring how electrical distribution networks are able to leverage new technologies to streamline efficiencies. Overall, I am inspired by the direction towards sustainability and innovation of new technology in the power industry.

My work experience.
What's next?

I have been a private tutor for maths and science, a ballet teacher assistant, a new technology intern at Endeavour Energy, an intern at Ausgrid, an equity research intern focusing on energy, oil and infrastructure companies and investment analyst intern for alternative assets and large cap stocks. I am a graduate at Ausgrid.
