Give everything a go - especially while you're still an undergrad/recent graduate. Not only will it help you find the areas that you're best at and most interested in, but it's also your best chance to try something new, learn something, or just ask a question which will help you become a more rounded engineer.

Who am I

Hi! I'm a final year student studying Photovoltaic Engineering and Chemistry at UNSW and I'm eager to see how the future of energy will be shaped. I have experience in power transmission through my placement at Aurecon as well and laboratory research into upcoming renewable technology at university. I love the feeling of trying something new or tinkering with a problem until it just clicks - as well as just getting out with some mates for social sports and activities.

Why I chose a career in power

I have always been driven to apply my interests to a bigger cause. In this case combining my interests for science and engineering, a career in the power industry is the most impactful way to support the renewable energy transition. It's also one of those industries that most people really don't think too much about - electricity just magically arrives when you turn something on - but there's really a lot to discover behind the scenes!

My work experience.
What's next?

I have been employed in various roles, most notably as a Student Electrical Engineer at Aurecon. However, I have also gained a lot of skills and experience in other work, including being an RA at my university college, helping out with cutting-edge lab research at uni, and working in hospitality during high school. The opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the global transition towards sustainable energy sources is incredibly motivating. And with that, a lot of people in the industry are just as passionate, driven, but also very happy to help out.
