Workplace

Three key points. First is to complete as many power related engineering units as you can. Second, to complete at least one internship before you graduate (API is a great option to find this). Finally, if you really care about the industry, you should keep up to date with the big power news both in Australia and around the world. Knowing how many amazing thing are being done in this industry gives me more motivation to continue on my path to be in the power industry.

Who am I

I'm a final year student at Monash University who is a passionate learner, I love learning everything this world has to offer, be it from history to different sports to different engineering solutions to major problems of our time.

Why I chose a career in power

Knowing that I wanted to work in an industry that works towards having a positive impact on society and to solve some of the biggest problems humanity is facing in our generation has lead to me consider the options I had as a future engineer towards the start of my degree. Figuring out that my passion lies in the power sector by my third year allowed me to take steps to put my foot into the industry through internships. The energy transition is one of the key worldwide projects that will determine how humanity will get to live on this planet in the future and I want to be a part of the process.

Where it all started

The amount of excitment and projects that are currently happening around the industry. The world is rallying around the power industry because the work that is done in the next 20-30 years will potentially define the rest of humanities history. I believe there are very few industries that have such an impact.

My work experience.
What's next?

I've been a tenis coach for five years, been part of one of the university student teams named Monash High Powered Rocketry for two years and competed in the US, been a Teaching Associate at Monash University for the last two years. Specific to power, I have completed two summer internships. The first one with Citipower, Powercor & United Energy and the second one with Aurecon in their Transmission & Distribution Team. I am not currently employed in the power industry. I am currently in the process of applying to a multitude of graduate roles in the power industry.
