For me the power industry provides the opportunity to delve into technical detail to be able to deliver solutions to support the network of tomorrow to be reliable, affordable and sustainable.
Who am I
I am an Undergraduate Electrical Engineer working within Strategic Network Investment where I get to support the electricity network of the future through non-traditional network upgrades, such as the installation of batteries. Previously I worked in Low Voltage Planning, supporting the roll out of Flexible Exports. Both of these roles have given me the opportunity to tackle technical challenges, while delivering solutions that will support the electricity network to benefit all consumers.
Outside of work you will find me tending to my vegetable garden, or knitting whatever project I have going at the time.
Why I chose a career in power
The power industry is undergoing rapid transformation, and there is no shortage of challenges needing to be overcome in the near future. It is exciting to be able to be involved on projects that may one day change the way the industry operates, that could make life better for a community, or simplify the complexity of the energy industry for consumers.
Where it all started
By chance I found myself in a full time role in the contact centre at SA Power Networks, at the time that Flexible Exports was in its trial stage. Being exposed to the work that the engineers were doing, to not only solve the technical challenges being faced by the network, but understanding how the solution could support all customers, was inspiring. I instantly knew that was what I wanted to do with my career, and applied to Flinders University within 12 months to start my engineering degree.

What's next?
Prior to the contact centre I was in banking for 3 years, where I worked in a branch dealing with customers face to face. Through this role I learnt empathy, strong customer service skills, the ability to talk to a range of individuals from a broad range of backgrounds, and the skill to be able to explain a complex concept in an understandable manner.
My current career focus is to continue building my technical knowledge across a broad range of areas to strengthen my base knowledge of the industry. In my current role I also have the opportunity to continue developing my stakeholder engagement skills, through presenting in various forums and liaising with a broad range of people both internal and external to my organisation.
