My advice is to be proactive and chase opportunities to get involved, the earlier in your career the better! You never know how far sending an email, having a conversation or applying for an internship / job can get you. The demand for power industry engineers is ever growing and now is the perfect time to get involved!
Who am I
I am a final year electrical engineering student at Flinders University, and Undergraduate Electrical Engineer within the substation engineering team at SA Power Networks. Growing up I have always enjoyed problem solving and the sciences, which lead to my decision to pursue an engineering degree. I am very glad I had made that decision and have enjoyed the last two years working within the power industry. Outside of engineering, I enjoy playing football, playing the guitar and spending time with friends and family.
Why I chose a career in power
The power industry is one of the most exciting engineering industries of our time due to the challenges and opportunities which are presenting themselves the desire for sustainable energy and growing demand for power in Australia. I am excited by the opportunity to work on important electrical projects, where I can contribute to the sustainability and development of society and have a meaningful career. Electric power is the future, and I look forward to being a part of it!
Where it all started
I am excited by the constant innovations taking place within the power industry, and the numerous engineering challenges presented by this. It is an exciting time to be part of an ever-growing industry, where every day, problem, and project provides new opportunities and experiences. I am interested in a challenging yet meaningful career, and one which with room for career growth and development, and the power industry is where I will get this opportunity.

What's next?
During my time at high school and university, I have worked numerous jobs across a variety of different fields. I have worked in hospitality at a pub and at a butcher shop, in construction / maintenance as a ground's person and as a traffic controller, sports as a cricket and football coach, and finally in the power sector as an undergraduate engineer at SA Power Networks. Although I have had a number of experiences across a variety of industries, the power industry has been the most meaningful and exciting so far! Yes, I am employed at SA Power Networks, the electricity distributor in South Australia. I do not have a graduate role secured, however plan on continuing my work at the company.
