Who am I

I'm Adrian, an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science student at University of Sydney. For me, the energy transitions is one of the most interesting and exciting challenges we will face, and my goal of being in the thick of it has informed a lot of my choices in recent years, from my degree choice, to interning at EnergyCo and even recently completing exchange in at TUM in Germany. Outside of work and studies, I'm a huge fan of travelling, the outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.

Why I chose a career in power

Originally inspired to do a degree in Electrical Engineering by the beginnings of the EV revolution, my curiosity and excitement for the industry has only grown as I've learnt more and more, and continued to get industry exposure through my placement and various conferences/conventions. I'm particularly excited by how drastic the change is going to be in the Distributed Energy space, as EVs and home batteries are used to their full potential to support and enhance rooftop solar and the distribution grid, and hope I can find a way to combine my engineering and computer science studies to have a real impact.

Where it all started

I'd say I find most exciting the opportunity to take part in a transition that is such a complete overturn of the way things are done today, and will have such an enormous impact on the future, especially with regards to the cost and emissions associated with electricity. I'm also excited by the kind of people this industry attracts, and who I'll get to work with. From what I've seen so far, everyone seems incredibly motivated, excited and optimistic about what they're working on, and I'm definitely looking forward to being part of it.

My work experience.
What's next?

Last summer I completed my placement at EnergyCo as their first intern, working in the Technical Services team responsible for producing the ISP, doing network option analysis and managing access rights and curtailment for new generation. On either side of that, I have several years of work experience as a bartender and waiter at pubs and at weddings, as a rowing coach and as a private tutor. I also continue to do some beekeeping here and there on the side. I'm not and won't be looking for industry employment this year, looking to maximise my last year of university and get the most out of my thesis. Come end of 2025, I will definitely be looking for employment for 2026, especially in the DER space.
