Workplace

The main advice I would give to people looking to pursue a career in the power/energy industry is to get involved. It's never too early and there's always opportunities to learn more. Not only internships (although these are extremely valuable) but also going to conferences and panels, talking to people in the industry and volunteering can be great ways to learn more and demonstrate your passion.

Who am I

I am currently in my final year of my Master of Electrical Engineering at Melbourne University, specialising in low carbon power systems and previously have completed a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering systems at Melbourne University as well. I love working on complex problems and have a strong interest in sustainability. I am looking forward to pursue these interests through working as an electrical power engineer once I graduate. Outside my studies, I enjoy nature with hikes and running, along with reading and learning new things.

Why I chose a career in power

I am choosing a career in the power industry as it is a field where I believe there is a great opportunity to make a difference. With the renewable energy transition at full flight in Australia, I love being able to work on challenging problems that also help reduce emissions and combat climate change. Energy is now so essential to everyone's life, so it is very meaningful for me to help it be affordable, reliable and sourced sustainably.

Where it all started

What excites me most about entering the industry is the opportunity to be part of positive change and work on challenging, important problems. With things changing so rapidly in the industry with many new renewable projects, new and developing technology and a fast changing network, I'm excited to be part of it all and contribute to the renewable energy transition. This is not only personally meaningful, but presents many interesting and challenging problems to solve to make things better.

My work experience.
